Riding promotes fitness, sportsmanship, co-ordination, responsibility and compassion.

Learning how to correctly handle a horse on the ground and ride with a balanced seat, can save you alot of frustration and guess work. I teach riders to listen and respect their horse - first and foremost. I teach all my students how to be safety conscious at all times. I also teach everything from the ground up, including grooming, tacking, health, stable management, preparing for a show, recognizing good conformation and so much more. Show coaching is also available for riders that have their own horse.

Most lessons are private and there is a strong emphasis on confidence. Maintaining a strong confidence level and having solid basic skills, will progress a rider faster in the long term. Rushing a rider and horse beyond their physical and mental capabilities, will leave a weak foundation. As the skill level of the rider develops, we can progress to jumping, dressage, road riding or show.

Lessons are available on a limited basis from April to November. Priority is given to boarders, students that trailer in and students leasing a horse. Schooling horses are not always available - please inquire for current availability.

* * Student haul ins are always welcome.

* * Pony lead line available for small children wishing to ride. Lead line includes some hands on brushing and a 20minute ride on a lead line.

Half Lease

Some horses at Eastwind Stables may be available for half lease. Half leasing is a great way to prepare for your own horse. A typical half lease includes 3 set days per week, full use of all amenities, access to riding lessons, tack and no additional charges for vet or farrier. Usually, 1 of the 3 set days, is put aside for a riding lesson. The other 2 set days per week, are yours to do whatever you wish - a practice ride, hack out or just simply spend time with the horse. All riders half leasing must have a basic skill set with a knowledge of safety and proper horse care.

Riding Attire

It is amazing how many times i've heard from students how much easier it is to ride in proper attire. As a coach, I notice a large improvement in overall performance of a rider.

Running shoes are NOT safe and there is no heel to prevent the riders foot from sliding through the stirrup. Jeans are alright but can be uncomfortable and cause painful sores on the inside of the riders knees. Track pants are not a good idea as they are slippery and too baggy.

When a rider is first starting out, I do not insist on formal riding attire. Jeans and boots with a heel with be fine to start. All students MUST ride with an ASTM approved helmet.

Ideally, casual riding attire should consist of breeches (pants), a well fitting shirt (no baggy sweatshirts), an ASTM approved helmet, gloves, paddocks boots with half chaps or a tall English boot. I can assist in suggestions for shopping.

A rider should be neatly dressed with long hair tied back or in a hair net. NO GUM is permitted while riding. Large earrings, rings or bracelets should be removed. All riders should be a water bottle to stay hydrated.
